Family Visa Consultants

UK Family Visa allows someone living in the UK to bring family members (eligible foreign nationals) to join them in the UK. The visa allows your family members to stay for 6 months or more. The visa allows you to bring a variety of family members or dependents with you. This includes a spouse or partner, fiance or proposed civil partner, child, parent, or a relative to whom you will provide long-term care. If your family wish to come for a shorter period (less than 6 months), it may be easier for them to be granted a standard visitor visa.

In order for you to bring a family member to the UK on a family visa, you must hold a valid immigration status or a visa that allows dependant family members to come to the UK.

Family Visa Requirements

As mentioned above, certain requirements will need to be met by the sponsor (family member living in the UK) in order to allow your family or loved ones to join you in the UK.

Sponsors will need to meet the following requirements: 

  • Hold a valid UK visa
  • Be a UK or Irish national
  • Have settled in the UK (e.g. they have ILR or settled status)
  • Be an EU national or a person from Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein and hold pre-settled status (the rules state that you must have started living in the UK before 1st January 2021)
  • Have a Turkish Businessperson visa or Turkish Worker visa, or
  • Have refugee status, or
  • Have humanitarian protection in the UK

The family member coming to the UK must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a fiance, spouse or partner, or proposed civil partner, child, parent, or relative to whom the host will provide long-term care
  • If applying as your child, you will need to show they are dependent on you, this means that they:
  • are not married
  • do not live an independent life
  • live with you (unless attending university or boarding school)
  • Be able to support themselves and any dependents (if applicable) financially
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the English language
  • Not have a criminal record or pose a threat to UK security.

The processing time for a UK family visa can vary depending on several factors, including the type of visa, where you are applying from, and whether you use priority services. Typically, it takes around 12 weeks (3 months) to process the visa from the date of your appointment at the visa application centre.

The cost of a UK family visa can vary depending on the type of visa, the length of stay, and where you are applying from. Below are some typical fees associated with UK family visas as of the latest update:

  1. Partner or Spouse Visa (applying from outside the UK): £1,538

  2. Partner or Spouse Visa (applying from within the UK): £1,048

  3. Child Visa (applying from outside the UK): £1,538

  4. Child Visa (applying from within the UK): £1,048

Close family members such as spouses, children, parents, and sometimes siblings can apply. The definitions and eligibility criteria can vary by country.

Priority Service: This service aims to process your application within 5 working days. It is available for both in-country and out-of-country applications.

Super Priority Service: This service aims to provide a decision by the end of the next working day after your biometric appointment. This is available for applications within the UK.

Yes, you will have to pay a certificate cost and immigration skills charge for each worker you sponsor depending on the category of application and the duration of sponsorship.

You must pay the correct fee depending on your category of application:

  • £239.00 certificate cost under the worker category
  • £25.00 certificate cost under the temporary worker category

In addition to the certificate cost, you must also pay the Immigration Skills charge:

  • £364.00 per year of sponsorship for small or charitable sponsors
  • £1,000.00 per year of sponsorship for medium or large sponsors

Some countries require applicants to demonstrate a basic proficiency in the national language. This might involve passing a language test.
