About Skilled Worker Visas

When it comes to getting a Skilled Worker Visa, there are a few recent changes that may impact you. The Tier 2 visa route has been replaced with effect from December 2020 to the new and improved Skilled Worker Visa. At UK Visa Specialists we have experts who have already trialled and experienced success with this new route and can offer you comprehensive guidance with your application. A Skilled Worker visa is open to individuals of all nationalities and allows you to come to the UK to do an eligible job with an approved employer. You must therefore have an offer to work in an eligible skilled job.

This route can also lead to settlement in the UK, for you and dependent family members (partners and children), following the completion of a qualifying period of five years.

If you need support with your Skilled Worker Visa, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us by filling out the contact form on this page or calling us on 0161 843 9000.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for a Skilled Worker Visa, you must:

  • Be sponsored by a UK employer that’s been approved by UKVI and holds a valid sponsorship license
  • Have a valid ‘certificate of sponsorship’ (CoS) issued by the approved sponsor (employer)
  • Be offered a job role that is on the list of eligible occupations
  • Have the necessary skills and experience to prove your job offer is genuine
  • Be paid a salary that is equal to or above the general salary threshold or is paid the ‘going rate’ if relevant for your occupation
  • Demonstrate that you have sufficient knowledge of the English Language

Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS)

The most important requirement for a skilled worker visa is to be issued with a valid Certificate of Sponsorship from your sponsoring employer. Our UK Visa Specialists can provide expert advice and technical guidance to you personally or to your employers on the criteria and issuance of a valid Certificate of Sponsorship.

If it is your first time applying for a visa under the Skilled Worker route you should ensure your employer is listed as an A-Rated sponsor on the Home Office’s register for Licensed Sponsors. Once issued, the certificate of sponsorship will remain valid to use for 3 months. The certificate must include certain mandatory information such as:

  • Your personal details
  • Job role and minimum salary
  • Start date within 3 months from the date of your Skilled Worker visa application and an end date
  • Confirmation that the certificate has not been revoked/withdrawn by the sponsor or cancelled by the Home Office
